Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, sbo128 who presented the new Davis Cup in Madrid this Wednesday, has covered more miles in the last two months than any other international player at the club. None of his teammates have travelled the 46,772 kilometres that Pique has covered since August 15. The closest is Arturo Vidal who with Chile was in Asia (South Korea and Japan) back in September and is now in the United States (Miami) and Mexico (Queretaro).
The Chilean's trip racks up 39,000 kilometres which is far from the Spaniard's tally. Earlier this year, Barcelona gave Pique permission to travel and he took the opportunity to globally promote his new tennis tournament, the Davis Cup. The first trip was the 15,000 kilometre return as the defender visited Orlando and Florida, sbo128 only three days before the team's league debut. Pique made a speech promoting tournament, which has been officially partnered with the International Tennis Federation, suggesting alterations to the current tournament, and he ended up winning just over 70 percent of the vote to go ahead with the project.
The next transoceanic trip saw the retired Spanish International go to New York (12,324 kilometres away) for the US Open finals where the decision on when to host the tournament was on the table. Coinciding with the second stop on his travels, Pique's final destination was almost 20,000 kilometres away in Shanghai where he talked to some tennis stars about their doubts regarding the new tournament. Pique met with leaders of the ATP and with Novak Djokovic, the re-elected president of the Player Council to further discuss the Davis Cup. The trip to Asia was already planned before the statements of Federer, Djokovic and Zverev were made. Pique is now done travelling however until he will be expected to be in London come November. On that occasion, he will be attending the Masters Cup with the presence of the eight best tennis players on the planet, precisely those that can mark the success or failure of the future of his new project. sbo128
